SAVVIS Communications announced today
it acquired Seattle-based Internet access provider Interconnected
Associates (IXA).
The acquisition reflects SAVVIS’s strategy to expand its services
nationwide. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
IXA is a business-oriented service provider in the Seattle-Portland, OR
region, offering Internet access at speeds ranging from Fractional T-1 (128
Kbps) to T-3 (45 Mbps). Amazon.com, Cybermeals.com, and Infospace.com are
among IXA’s list of 200 customers.
SAVVIS, ranked as having the fastest Internet backbone according to the
latest Keynote Systems/Boardwatch survey (see related InternetNews.com coverage), reports the addition of Seattle and Portland expands its network to include eight Private Network Access Points (NAPs) and Points of Presence (POPs) in 11 cities nationwide.
SAVVIS currently provides services to companies such as CDnow, PointCast
Inc., Apple Computer, and Omron Electronics.
“We have quadrupled our sales force in the past six months,” said M.C.
“Sam” Sanderson, president and chief executive officer at SAVVIS
Communications, “and we will double it again in 1998. Seattle and Portland
mark the beginning of this growth.”
SAVVIS reports IXA co-founders Jeff Sterling and Mike Brownstein will
join the company and continue to be responsible for the Seattle-Portland
region. Sterling was named Vice President and Regional Sales Manager,
Northwest region; Brownstein will become Vice President and Northwest
Region Operations Manager.
According to SAVVIS, IXA should be completely integrated into its network
and operating systems within 90 days.
