SCO Resellers to Offer ASP-in-a-Box

The SCO Server Software Division (SSD), an independent business unit of The Santa Cruz Operation Inc. (Nasdaq: SCOC), and ASP infrastructure provider Allegrix Inc. today (Jan 2) announced the availability of the Allegrix ASP-in-a-Box Program for the SCO SSD reseller channel.

The program provides channel-based partners with a complete business assessment kit to quickly add ASP solutions while continuing to sell SCO OpenServer Release 5, UnixWare 7 and UnixWare 7 NonStop Clusters — based solutions. ASP-in-a-Box, combined with Allegrix’s ASP-enabling technologies and application hosting service, provides the SCO SSD reseller channel with the tools necessary to become an ASP.

“The ASP model represents a huge opportunity for the SCO SSD reseller channel,” said Nimer Maabadi, VP of worldwide sales for the SCO Server Software Division. “This is particularly true in the small-to-medium business market, which has been a major market for our reseller channel. Allegrix’s ASP-in-a-Box will hopefully be the catalyst for resellers who want to bring the power of our ASP-enabled server software product line to customers. Some customers are perfect candidates for the ASP business model and would rather pay-as-they-go rather than incur a one-time cost. We hope to see this program grow in leaps and bounds as a result.”

In August 2000, Caldera Systems Inc. announced plans to purchase the SCO SSD. “The ASP-in-a-Box program is obviously great news for the SCO SSD reseller channel, as it opens new avenues of revenue,” said Jeff Hunsaker, VP sales at Caldera Systems Inc. “As the close of the acquisition approaches, we hope to work with Allegrix to bring ASP-in-a-Box to the Caldera reseller channel as well.”

“We are excited to bring the ASP-in-a-Box program to the SCO SSD reseller channel,” said Chris Clabaugh, president and CEO of Allegrix. “The ASP-in-a-Box channel program is the first of its kind — it directly addresses the significant challenges that solution providers face when becoming an ASP. It is backed by the state-of-the-art Allegrix infrastructure and professional services that the channel requires. In as little as five days, we can ASP-enable virtually any type of Windows, UNIX and Linux application.”

Essential elements of the box include ASP information and tools for the key departments in channel-based solution provider organizations: sales, marketing, engineering and finance. Each section of the box is designed to provide these departments with the knowledge they need to quickly adapt to the ASP model. The box also includes the SCO SSD ASP Cookbook, which addresses technical infrastructure issues should providers want to build their own data center, or co-locate with infrastructure providers like Exodus Communications.

Information in the box includes Customer Savings Analysis and Margin Analysis Tools; Sales Force Compensation Models; Build Data Center versus Partnering Analysis; and Service Level Agreement Templates.
