Paramount Digital Entertainment Tuesday turned to EarthLink to help it capture the attention of Trek fans.
Together, the two companies will offer a Star Trek-themed Internet access service — including a Star Trek-themed browser, a StarTrek.net e-mail address, desktop customization options and exclusive access to specially-created Star Trek
content.
Paramount said it is launching the service in conjunction with the premiere season of UPN’s Enterprise, the latest installment of the Trek franchise.
“We are pleased to offer our fans this groundbreaking way to make Star Trek part of their everyday lives online,” said Leonard Washington, president of Paramount Digital Entertainment. “In EarthLink we have a partner that is highly regarded for its
reliable Internet access and exceptional customer service. Combine that with StarTrek.net’s unique subscriber-only Star Trek
features, and you’ve got an Internet access service Star Trek fans will find hard to resist.”
Subscribers to the new service, which will cost the same as EarthLink’s regular services, can choose either dial-up or high-speed
connections. Customers can get the service through a number of channels in the United States and Canada, including Paramount’s StarTrek.com Web site, and by calling 1-866-TREKLINK.
The exclusive content will include “sneak peeks” at Star Trek productions, interviews with the cast and crew of
Enterprise and previous series, fictional documentaries about the Star Trek universe, news articles, photos and
videos.
“Star Trek has a phenomenal online following, and this is an exciting new way that EarthLink can serve such a loyal group
with exclusive content and unprecedented customizable options,” said Mike McQuary, president of EarthLink. “Together with Paramount,
we’ve designed a highly-themed and customizable offering that pairs Star Trek-focused content with EarthLink’s superior Internet
service to enhance every aspect of Star Trek fans’ online experience.”
