Three Companies To Tackle Instant Messaging

Two Massachusetts firms and one California-based company say they want to give Web developers a multi-platform messaging tool to offer Web services to any Internet-enabled device.

Westford, Mass.-based Viridien Technologies, Dublin, Ireland and Walnut Creek, Calif.-based Cape Clear Software, and Boston-based MessageMachines Thursday announced a strategic partnership that brings together each other’s technology to benefit Viridien’s corporate developers.

The idea is to integrate instant alerts, notifications, and distributed messages into wired or wireless sites and to automatically communicate with users via any device.

“The script can simply say to contact the sales rep when a customer logs in or when certain key data changes on the Web site,” says Viridien head of research and development Brian Sandberg. “The Converged Messaging feature will take care of how and where to reach the sales rep at that moment. It gives the developer an extremely powerful new communications tool.”

The platform is an amalgamation of Viridien’s wired and wireless Web services, Cape Clear’s Cape Connect software product and MessageMachines’ message switching technology. CapeConnect Web Services are based on open standards and provide full support for SOAP, WSDL, UDDI, XML, and HTTP.

Viridien says the first applications will target instant information about investments, loans, automobiles, electronics, insurance, and healthcare.
