USinternetworking , an Annapolis, Md.-based application-service provider (ASP), said it has made available an updated version of its USi Enterprise Messaging and Collaboration product powered by Microsoft Exchange 2000.

New features from the upgrade include wireless access to Exchange 2000 through RIM BlackBerry devices, Instant Messaging through Exchange 2000, and a five day disaster recovery option, officials said.

Full synchronization capabilities ensure that Exchange 2000 mailboxes and the associated RIM BlackBerry device stay in synch. Additionally, the IT manager looking to increase efficiency without risking service-level agreements (SLAs) on consumer-based Instant Messaging (IM) systems can choose USi’s IM feature for their Exchange 2000 solutions, USi said. And USi continues to improve its disaster recovery product by offering a five day disaster recovery option.

In partnership with Internosis, a Microsoft-centric systems integrator, USi provides migration services for legacy messaging platforms to the Microsoft Exchange 2000 platform.

USi’s Exchange 2000 offering also includes Mail Platform Migration Services, Secure Networking, Virus Protection, Customizable Content Scanning & Management, Mailbox Management, and Customizable Support Options including Full Service & Self Service Provisioning.

USi said it can deliver its ASP-managed messaging and collaboration products for large enterprises ranging from 1,000 to 25,000 seats.

USi said it is the only ASP to have achieved Microsoft Gold Certification for multiple services in the Hosting & Application Services category and was named the global ASP market leader by market research firm IDC in 2001.

USinternetworking earlier this month filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and received a commitment for an up to $106 million investment from Bain Capital Partners LLC.
