Softricity Inc., a Boston-based infrastructure software provider, today announced, at the Citrix Solutions Summit in Orlando, Fla., that two system integrators that also offer application services on an ASP basis have adopted the SoftGrid application deployment and management platform.
SoftGrid is designed to enable applications to be delivered as network services to thousands of computers from a single server. The on-demand deployment technology streams small portions of code to destinations, eliminating the need to install applications and updates on a computer-by-computer basis.
Connect Computer Corp and IntelliSuite use the Citrix MetaFrame server platform. SoftGrid reports that it has also enabled the two companies to consolidate the number of MetaFrame servers and eliminate application conflicts without requiring separate server silos to isolate applications. SoftGrid’s capability to run applications in multi-session mode means that instead of needing a dedicated server to run a single instance of an application, they can run many instances on the same server at the same time.
“We can service more users with fewer, yet more efficient, centralized resources. This improves our economies of scale and is a more profitable way to run our business,” said Dan Delventhal, CEO, Connect Computer Corp., in a statement released by Softricity.
“We were able to immediately eliminate regression testing and installing software on every server,” said Peter Ayedun, president of IntelliSuite. “We quickly provided each customer with a dedicated environment using shared resources. And, for customers who wanted applications like Peachtree 2000 but either couldn’t get them or had to wait too long for them because they didn’t run multiple instances correctly in terminal services, we can now offer the critical applications they demand.”
