E-business application supplier Vignette Corp. (Nasdaq:VIGN) announced this week (Oct 17) that it has joined the Oracle (Nasdaq:ORCL) Wireless Partner Initiative. Vignette’s V/5 Content Management Server and its V/5 Lifecycle Personalization Server will be integrated with Oracle 9i Application Server Wireless Edition to provide a comprehensive wireless portal solution.

“Vignette’s participation in our Wireless Partner Initiative will allow us to reach a broader customer base with a richer wireless solution,” said Thomas Kurian, vice president, e-business at Oracle.

Oracle-9i AS Wireless Edition allows telcos and enterprises to provide new and existing Internet applications or content for any wireless-enabled device including: smart phones, pagers, PDAs and handheld computers. When implemented with Oracle-9i AS Wireless Edition, Vignette’s V/5 Content Management Server will manage web content for wireless services with a high level of flexibility and scalability.

The Vignette V/5 Personalization Server enables businesses to provide highly personalized services to their wireless customers. This subscriber-specific customization will offer both explicit, user-selected personalization and implicit user behavior-based personalization functionality across all wireless applications.

Oracle recently launched its Oracle Wireless Partner Initiative to assist independent software vendors (ISVs), application service providers (ASPs) and system integrators (SIs) in deploying wireless portals and Internet applications and services. Oracle’s wireless Internet software includes Oracle9i Application Server Wireless Edition and a set of wireless development tools. The new initiative is part of the Oracle Partner Program.
