Akamai Technologies has signed two more high-profile customers of its EdgeSuite service to deliver speedier Web pages to users.

Document management giant Xerox and Columbia House, the direct-marketer of music and videos, recently implemented Akamai’s distributed application and content deliver services, Akamai announced.

For Xerox, the company deployed the service to simplify its infrastructure requirements while increasing the performance, scalability and reliability of its global Web operations.

“Xerox places the utmost level of importance on effectively reaching our customers, partners and other stakeholders via the Internet,” said Fred Heller, vice president and general manager of xerox.com. “Working with Akamai enables us to scale on demand to meet site visitors’ needs with high availability and performance, regardless of unpredictable traffic levels.”

Meanwhile, Columbia House’s 16 million members will enjoy an enhanced Web experience through Akamai’s high-performance content delivery on its Columbiahouse.com music, DVD and video site.
