Yahoo Improves Its Images

Size matters to Yahoo and so the Internet media company has bulked up its image muscle by adding to its image index.

In addition to increasing its store of images to 1.5 billion, Yahoo said it added features to Yahoo Image Search.

Most notable was what it calls “transformed queries,” automatically determining terms that might fit the user’s query, then using them to deliver results. This improvement follows the Feb. 18 upgrade of the “spellchecker,” which suggests alternate words when searchers misspell or mistype queries.

Also, results for queries using Yahoo Search will include not only images, but also shortcuts to the image search tool. And searchers can e-mail images to others by clicking on a link next to the image.
