Here come the fireworks.

For all those anxious FCC watchers wondering how the commission would bounce back from its legal setback in the landmark Comcast case and try to reestablish authority over the broadband sector, the wait is almost over.

Tomorrow, Chairman Julius Genachowski plans to announce a “path forward” that will attempt to strike a balance between a hands-off approach to the Internet and a burdensome regulatory framework that would saddle ISPs with all of the same requirements imposed on landline phone providers.

“The chairman will seek to restore the status quo as it existed prior to the court decision in order to fulfill the previously stated agenda of extending broadband to all Americans, protecting consumers, ensuring fair competition, and preserving a free and open Internet,” a senior FCC official said in an e-mail to reporters.
