In its most comprehensive managed services deal yet, has signed a five-year, $100 million contract to manage Telecom New Zealand’s 3G
About 50 Telecom New Zealand IT workers will transfer to Lucent as part of the agreement.
Work that falls under the services heading includes network design, deployment, operations, support maintenance and outsourcing. It’s an area that Lucent is keen on and has begun winning deals in.
“The services market is ripe for a company with Lucent’s extensive knowledge and experience in managing, operating and designing complex networks,” a spokesman for the Murray Hill, N.J., company said.
The Telcom New Zealand contract grew out of a previous relationship between the companies — Lucent built the code-division multiple access
“Globally, telcos want to lower costs, focus on core business and swiftly provide top quality new services to customers,” said Stephen Crombie, Telecom New Zealeand’s general manager of network investment. “Our agreement with Lucent delivers all this.”
For Lucent, its the second international services deal in as many weeks. Last week, announced a contract to provide technical support, management consulting, staff training and network optimization for a subsidiaries of Unicom Horizon Mobile Telecom and China Netcom. Neither the duration nor the value of the pacts was disclosed.
And late last month, the company landed $50 million in new contracts to upgrade and integrate voice and data networks at Army bases in North America and Asia.
