Microsoft is betting on a big holiday season, fueled in large part by the release of a bumper crop of smartphones running Windows Phone 7, the next iteration of its mobile operating system.

Microsoft isn’t saying yet when or where it will hold an expected launch gala for the company’s pending Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system debut.
