Newark Airport Gets Wi-Fi’d
The Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey is the latest facility to be equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi
NetNearU, which builds hotspots for public locations, said Terminal C of Newark‘s busy hub has already been fitted with nodes to offer Wi-Fi to travelers. Terminals A and B are scheduled to have Wi-Fi soon.
NetNearU’s TRACKOS hotspot system, which is already deployed at the Baltimore-Washington International Airport and the Miami International Airport, powers all aspects of deploying public hotspots. It is used to power broadband wireless access points, Internet-based kiosks and Web pay phones.
Niue Unwired with Wi-Fi
The Polynesian island of Niue has become the first nation in the world to offer free Wi-Fi access to its 2,000 residents.
Niue, a 260 sq km island in the South Pacific Ocean, is offering the high-speed wireless service to residents, tourists, government offices and business travelers at no cost.
The hotspot was set up by the Internet Users Society – Niue (IUS-N) non-profit organization established in 1997 to use revenue from registration of .NU domain names to develop and fund free Internet services for all the people of Niue.
For Niue, the free Wi-Fi service will be used as another carrot to lure tourists to the island. A substantial portion of Niue’s tourism comes from visiting yacht traffic during the non-cyclone season. The IUS-N said yachts with onboard computer equipment with Wi-Fi cards and external antennas will be able to park in the harbor and access full Internet services from their vessels as an open node.
