Jul 15, 2010

The smartphone wars continue to rumble. While Android, Apple, Research-in-Motion, Nokia and others hope to get a bigger piece of both the consumer and business markets, software giant Microsoft is gearing up to reenter the fray.

As Apple has already shown, today’s smartphones need a broad range of applications to be successful. DevX reports on the latest efforts by Microsoft to win developer support for its forthcoming line of Windows Phone 7 devices.

With the delivery of early Windows Phone 7 devices to third-party developers this week, Microsoft also began the official beta test of development tools to let them build apps for the company

s upcoming smartphone system.

Developers have been awaiting final versions of programming tools for Windows Phone 7 since Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) CEO Steve Ballmer introduced its new mobile system at the Global World Conference in Barcelona, Spain in February.
