Yahoo! Inc. and Geocities Monday finished the first round of their service integration, bringing GeoCities’ more than 4.6 million homesteaders direct access to the Yahoo! Network.

Users now access a redesigned Yahoo! GeoCities’ interface, and can use a beta version of Yahoo! PageBuilder to make their homepages. Yahoo! GeoCities’ has also combined the two registration services for a one-time sign-up.

“This is a clear win-win situation for the GeoCities homesteaders and Yahoo! users. The
homesteaders now have access to Yahoo!’s robust communication and community tools,” said Tim Brady, Yahoo!’s vice president and executive producer. “Similarly, Yahoo! users now have access to home page publishing tools under their existing Yahoo! ID.”

As part of the service changes, Yahoo! Mail now offers free POP Mail and forwarding through Yahoo! Mail. GeoMail e-mail addresses will not change.

Further integration plans include the addition of an expanded suite of publishing tools and the option for users to add Yahoo! services such as content, chat and message boards to their homepages.
