Avaya Purchase Expands IP Telephony Ranks

IP telephony player Avaya has purchased the professional and managed services business units of VISTA Information Technologies, a move that will help Avaya keep pace with the global growth in outsourced call centers that deploy IP technologies.

Financial details of the purchase, which is expected to close in October, were not released. However, the deal is expected to bring a group of voice and data network consulting experts from VISTA on board with Avaya, which is benefiting from the surge in outsourcing in global markets, especially through the use of call center, or contact center operations for customer service.

VISTA is considered one of the leading players in building and integrating IP networks with call centers’ phone routing systems. The assets and experts are expected to help Avaya build and maintain the increasingly complex integration of voice and data networks in call centers, which often represent multi-vendor systems.

The Basking Ridge, N.J.-based Avaya said the purchase includes software tools that streamline integration of complex multi-channel, multi-vendor contact center networks and enhance remote network management capabilities.

In addition, the consultants joining Avaya’s professional services organization carry
industry certifications and qualifications from major technology providers including Avaya, Cisco, Microsoft and Nortel.

A spokesperson for Avaya said the consultants have significant experience integrating multi-vendor contact centers and converged voice and data networks.
