Genuity Inc. Wednesday rolled out its
new nationwide business-grade digital subscriber line service.
Genuity’s Enterprise DSL Internet Access Service is the first service to
offer companies a reliable single-source for DSL services that includes
activation and provisioning, customer support and billing.
In the past, enterprises would negotiate with DSL providers to build
national, B2B extranets and intranets for telecommuters and remote branch
offices.
Genuity’s new service includes local loop, Internet connectivity, IP address
management, access speeds up to 1.5 megabits per second, unlimited usage, technical support
and billing. It also comes complete with self-installation kits and
dedicated provisioning support staff and tiered pricing for volume
purchases.
The new system creates a high-speed data channel on the subscriber’s
standard telephone line that simultaneously supports multiple computers, as
well as voice and fax service. With DSL, users can make or receive a phone
call or fax while remaining connected to their corporate LAN or the
Internet.
Compared to other types of access, Enterprise DSL can be up to 10 times
faster than ISDN lines and up to 25 times faster than a
56 Kbps modem, while being significantly less expensive than dedicated
access lines such as T-1 and T-3.

Enterprise DSL Internet access service is available on a nationwide basis
now and starts at $89.95 per month.
Genuity’s service announcement coincides with the explosion in popularity of
DSL provision. In April, Excite@Home
, famed for its cable modem access, joined the fleet of
firms offering DSL packages to consumers hungry for faster
Internet access.
That announcement followed a deal with Rhythms NetConnections
, a wholesale provider of high-speed digital subscriber
lines, giving it access to more than 15 million homes served by
Rhythms.
