Global Crossing Connects Global Health Care Provider

Global Crossing Ltd. Monday cemented a deal with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) to supply that
organization’s network services.

The three-year contract calls for Global Crossing to supply a network backbone, long distance service and an International Private
Line (IPL).

The backbone will connect UPMC’s radiology, oncology and hematology departments with remote hospitals. Using Frame Relay and ATM
networks, the departments will be able to share images and consult with physicians at remote hospitals. UPMC will utilize the long
distance services for UPMC Health System’s 220 physician practices and hospitals.

The IPL will connect to Palermo, Sicily, where the non-profit operates a facility that performs transplants and other specialized
services. Global Crossing said the IPL will allow transplant physicians in Sicily to receive real-time assistance from specialists
in Pittsburgh.

“The reliability, security and reach of our network allows UPMC physicians to collaborate from worldwide locations to deliver
patient care,” said John Legere, chief executive officer of Global Crossing.
