Hewlett-Packard Co. Thursday introduced
e-utilica, a solution for service providers that may be included in their
intranet.
e-utilica will enable application service providers to offer technical
design customers instant access to applications and compute capacity,
helping them to streamline design collaboration.
With e-utilica, ASPs can provide customers access to applications with
scalable capacity to power customers’ peak demands.
e-utilica can be integrated within the firewall of an enterprise’s corporate
intranet to distribute applications to remote locations when needed. Remote
e-utilica nodes can be instantly ignited to power additional capacity and
application delivery as needed. The device can also be used to link
suppliers and partners over a secure virtual private network,
further streamlining collaboration and design supply-chain efficiencies.
“Speeding time to market is the major challenge faced by technical designers
in today’s heated Internet economy, and businesses are seeking ways to
improve their design and operational processes to compete more effectively,”
said Jim Zafarana, worldwide marketing manager for H-P’s
technical computing division.
“A pre-configured e-service solution featuring the best of H-P’s
high-performance compute systems, e-utilica equips ASPs with a seamless and
instant revenue-generating value-add.”
Using e-utilica to deliver applications and compute capacity, design
engineers around the globe can collaborate simultaneously on complex
technical-design projects, such as circuit board or chip design.
e-utilica is expected to be available July 1 through HP direct sales.
Pricing is based upon configuration.
H-P scored a major deal Wednesday when it signed on to supply equipment to
power Amazon.com’s Web site and become
an “anchor tenant” for the e-commerce giant’s consumer electronics business.
H-P equipment agreed to run 90 percent of Amazon’s Web site, making the
e-commerce giant one of HP’s five largest customers.
