Insurance Firm, Intranets.com Team Up for Portal

Selective Insurance Group Inc. and Intranets.com Wednesday launched a
service that delivers communication and productivity tools to more than 900
independent agents and their customers.

Financial details were not made public.

Selective and Intranets.com have forged mySELECTnet.com, a branded
application that offers a customizable Intranet communication solution to
users.

With the deal, Selective wants to give agents the opportunity to create a
Web presence for their agency as well as a sell-through feature for their
customers. Each customized intranet site becomes a free, secure place on the
Web that agents and their customers can use for e-mail, document sharing and
archiving, scheduling, and business related links.

In addition to insurance related topics, mySELECTnet.com will carry
national, world, business, financial and other news; weather; business
services and online shopping options. Intranets.com will host each
mySELECTnet.com site for free and
provide at least 25 megabytes of space on their servers at no cost.

mySELECTnet.com is the newest component of Selective’s strategy to bolster
its technology to compete with rivals in serving agents and policyholders.

Essentially, the firm is looking to get technology smart — fast.

“Rather than using the Internet to circumvent personal service, we have
chosen to provide tools that enable our agents and their customers to better
manage both their operations and their everyday lives,” said Gregory E.
Murphy, Selective’s chairman, president and chief executive officer.

Intranets.com is the second intranet creator in the last week to link arms
with an insurance carrier to help it beef up its online presence. Last week,
AFLAC welcomed Open Text’s Livelink solution to improve its employee
portal.
