Netscape Communications Corp. today debuted its extended enterprise process automation solution for the enterprise and extranet markets, billing it as a key component of the company’s “Net Economy” strategy.

The new Netscape Process Manager 1.0 application software is designed to enable enterprise service providers (ESPs) to design, deploy, and manage processes on the enterprise and over extranets.

Netscape said the software automates business processes that require external users and multiple parties such as job bidding, contract negotiation and customer management. The application is directory-enabled and works in conjunction with Netscape Enterprise Server software and Netscape Directory Server software to deliver a browser-based solution for process development and automation, the company said.

The product features several components: Netscape Process Manager Builder for development; Netscape Process Manager Engine for deployment; Netscape Process Manager Administrator for centralized process management; and Netscape Process Manager Express for end users participating in business functions.

Netscape said Process Manager supports Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory servers and Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) database servers, and employs digital certificates and the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol for Extranet security. The software also supports Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) messaging systems.

Netscape Process Manager is now available for private beta testing and will retail commercially this fall. Pricing begins at $9,995 for a starter bundle. Pricing for Extranet use begins at $49,500 per server.
