HyperRoll, a start-up that makes data aggregation software to amplify the performance of business intelligence (BI) applications, got a new skipper this week.
The Mountain View, Calif. company announced Tuesday that Michael
Bealmear has signed on as its chief executive officer. Bealmear has replaced Moshe Mor,
chairman of the HyperRoll board and a general partner of investment
Greylock, who has been serving as CEO on an interim basis for the last
Bealmer has a long history with database and business intelligence and
HyperRoll from software infrastructure concern Sybase,
he most recently served as president of Worldwide Field Operations.
Bealmear told internetnews.com that he is the right man for the
of HyperRoll chief because one of his last major projects at Sybase was
oversee a marketing campaign geared toward accelerating and improving
performance of data warehouses.
“I’m very good at being hands on and messaging and positioning,”
said. “And I think I’m pretty good at strategy and this [HyperRoll] is
much an execution play. I performed some due diligence of some of the
forecast reports and business analytics is very high on every CIO to- do list for 2004, so I see a great growth opportunity. I think this is a unique opportunity in that the science and barriers to entry are high.”
HyperRoll employs patented aggregation and caching algorithms with
load-balancing features to boost load times by as much as 100 times.
HyperRoll recently unveiled the third version of its flagship platform for boosting the performance of business intelligence applications from companies such as Business Objects and Cognos.
In what is seen as a multi-billion-dollar industry, BI applications
providers make software that informs companies about the performance of their business. The high velocity aggregation HyperRoll provides helps BI applications move closer to the real-time functionality so many businesses covet, while reducing the need for hardware that would normally be used to house software to provide such capabilities.
Asked what he will focus on, Bealmear promised to drive sales execution and to make significant investments in the company’s direct and indirect sales channels, as well as expansion to a “go-to-market model.”
He also sees plenty of opportunities for HyperRoll to move out of the
HyperRoll, which currently employs 60, boasts such customers as Nortel
Networks, Kellogg’s, MasterCard and Deutsche Bank.
Before his latest role at Sybase, he was an executive vice president at the company, which makes database software, middleware for enterprise application integration (EAI), e-business portals and the business intelligence suite IQ, a high-performance data warehousing portfolio.
In this role, Bealmear was responsible for developing and implementing
the company’s growth strategies, overseeing all customer relations, and driving global sales for Sybase’s international geographies in North America, Latin America, Asia Pacific and Europe.
Prior to rejoining Sybase in 2002, Bealmear was chief executive officer for Covansys, a global technology services company specializing in industry-specific solutions. Before his tenure at Convansys, Bealmear
