The Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association College Retirement Equities
Fund (TIAA-CREF) Monday said it would turn to Vignette Corp. to provide
applications for the redesign of its enterprise-wide intranet, Business and
Associate Services Environment (BASE).

Vignette said its applications will used to manage TIAA-CREF’s information
and the complexity of its Web sites.

The BASE intranet was originally designs as a reference and research source,
and it has experienced steady growth in traffic and the amount of
information available. But Vignette said that as the intra-company Web sites
grew, employees began having trouble navigating and searching the sites for
the information they needed.

“Manual content management, successful in a small, controlled environment,
became less manageable as the amount and complexity of information being
delivered through the Web grew,” said Greg Goldman, manager of Corporate
Intranet Services at TIAA-CREF. “Vignette’s applications will enable us to
efficiently organize, deliver and present all our intranet content with one
tool.”

TIAA-CREF plans to utilize Vignette Content Management Server (VCMS), the
Vignette Lifecycle Personalization Server (VLPS) and the Vignette Content
Syndication Server (VCSS). Together, the three applications will allow the
intranet to deliver information to employees based on employee profiles and
associated business rules. Employees will also be able to enroll in
workgroup communities and subscribe to topics of their choice.

“To best serve its more than two million customers, TIAA-CREF must place
critical information at the fingertips of its 6,100 employees in a timely
and efficient manner,” said Dan J. Lautenbach, senior vice president of
global sales and operations at Vignette. “Vignette’s customer-driven
Internet applications will give each TIAA-CREF employee quick and easy
access to the up-to-date information most relevant to them.”
