Yahoo! Rolls Out Corporate Portal Services

Yahoo! Inc. Monday unleashed a major
corporate portal initiative which allows companies to offer their employees content and services from the portal giant on in-house networks.

Co-developed with portal technology from TIBCO Software Inc.
Yahoo! Corporate Yahoo! is an
enterprise information portal based on the My Yahoo! interface.

The two companies created Yahoo! Portal Builder software to enable the
integration of customized Internet content delivered by Yahoo! and corporate content from a company’s intranets, databases and
enterprise applications.

Corporate Yahoo! consists of a highly personalized portal where employees
can pull up financial news, human resource news, stock quotes and a slew of
relevant information released by their firms.

Yahoo! inked a number of technical and content alliances en route to rolling
out the latest major enterprise strategy, a sector that Merrill Lynch
predicts will climb from $4.4 billion in 1998 to $14.8 billion in 2002.

The first clients to deploy Corporate Yahoo! include Alcatel, Inktomi Corp. and Network Appliance.

In addition to soliciting TIBCO for portal solutions, Yahoo! has called upon
Hewlett-Packard Co. will act
as a premier reseller and will also provide sales, marketing, system
integration and customer support.

Inktomi Corp., Yahoo!’s default search provider for the last two years, will
provide premier search and navigation technology. Ironically, Inktomi was
replaced Monday as the portal giant’s default search provider by Google.com which released what it claims to
be the world’s largest search index.

Yahoo! has also developed alliances with the following technology solution
providers to boost the quality of Corporate Yahoo!’s service:

  • Citrix Systems
NFuse technology will enable server-based applications to be launched from a
standard Web page simply by clicking on a link or icon

  • Netegrity‘s
SiteMinder secure management platform will enable single sign-on, authentication management and entitlement
    management

  • Critical Path will support messaging, personal information management and collaboration through its InLine Resource Management, InSchedule

“Corporate Yahoo! will help Global 2000 companies maximize the investment
they have already made in their intranets and extranets by providing a
compelling service for accessing both corporate and personal information,”
says John Willcutts, vice president, Yahoo! Enterprise Services.

“We have developed this solution in response to strong demand from companies
that want to leverage Yahoo!’s current popularity in the workplace to
increase productivity and improve communications.”
