[London, ENGLAND] Vertical sites portal operator
About, Inc. announced
Tuesday the launch of About UK,
a new site that features online guides specific to the United Kingdom.

For example, among the extensive offerings on About UK are such
topics as:
British Theatre,
Top 40 Music,
Royalty,
Scottish Culture, and
Northwest England.

Formerly The Mining Co., About.com has enjoyed huge success with
its vertical portals, each of which is run by an individual who
has a special interest in — and knowledge about — the specific topic
covered. About.com ranks as the seventh largest Web property in
the United States.

Alan Wragg, president of About International, is clearly keen to
recruit more people in the U.K. to prepare guides on British topics.

“While we cover many topics of interest to people throughout the world,
we are interested in expanding our coverage of GuideSites most relevant
to those in the U.K.,” said Wragg.

The vertical sites with About.com are more than simple directories,
containing not only links but plenty of original content, community
features and commerce opportunities. Inevitably, they vary in
quality, but the best of them are among the most informative
sites on the Internet.

To become a U.K. guide, users can visit
U.K. openings.
The field appears to be wide open in comparison to the main
About.com site, with opportunities in mainstream subjects such
as cars, cooking, health, politics, etc.

Already overflowing with content is About’s other non-U.S. site,
About Canada,
which carries extensive information about every corner of
Canada as well as topics of interest to Canadians and
tourists.
