ActiveSky has cut a deal with Handspring Inc. to deliver visual media to the company’s Visor line of handheld computers. ActiveSky’s visual media player supports the new 16-bit color Visor Prism and monochrome edition Visor Platinum.

“It made perfect sense for us to work with a recognized leader in innovation like Handspring, which has a full line of handheld devices to fit every consumer,” Scott Marquardt, chief executive officer, ActiveSky, said. “We’ re a great fit for Handspring because we can deliver the high quality, high resolution visual media that complements the company’s entire line of handhelds.”

Offered for download at www.activesky.com, ActiveSky’s media player gives users the ability to access, view and share visual content, including video, animation, graphics and enhanced text on their handheld.

“ActiveSky’s media player brings color video and animation to life,” Joe Sipher, vice president, product marketing, Handspring, said. “Handspring users count on us to integrate the newest applications that take advantage of our products’ enhanced features. By working with ActiveSky, we are now equipping users, for the first time, with the ability to enjoy visually-rich media like never before.”

ActiveSky’s player allows for media play in black-and-white, grayscale and color, conforming to the capabilities of each product.

Users of ActiveSky’s media player can download visual media to play later as well as stream it directly to their handhelds. ActiveSky has signed content providers to distribute news, sports, entertainment and educational short programs.
