Austrade Joins Global B2B Portal

[Sydney, AUSTRALIA] The Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) and sister organizations in four Scandinavian countries have joined forces to develop an international directory of business-to-business (B2B) electronic marketplaces.

Trade Minister Mark Vaile announced an agreement to launch the joint project with Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland by December.

The portal will contain a searchable database of eMarkets designed to help small and medium-seized enterprises (SMEs) find eMarkets relevant to their needs as well as information and resources on how to use them as a channel for internationalization.

“Electronic marketplaces are becoming important tools in global business, with this international portal destined to become the way for businesses to stay informed about electronic marketplaces in the future,” Vaile said.

The vice president of the Norwegian Trade Council, Jon Stromberg, said the project might be expanded early next year as interest had been expressed by other countries including Mexico, Singapore and Geneva.

“Ultimately, our vision is to become a truly international human network where we all share our knowledge of how eMarkets are being used in different countries around the world,” he said.
