Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) has inked a deal with drugstore.com allowing its 2.4 million members to fill prescriptions and buy health and beauty
products online.
Financial terms of the two-year agreement were not disclosed. A link to drugstore.com will be live on BCBSMA’s site after May 1.
“We established this agreement with drugstore.com to provide an opportunity to help make shopping easier for our members,” said Stephen R. Booma, a
vice president with the insurer. “We are using new technologies to improve service for our members.”
For drugstore.com, the pact should help expand its customer base. The Bellevue, Wash.-based company already has agreements with Amazon.com , Rite Aid
, WellPoint Health Networks
and General Nutrition.
“This partnership supports our strategic efforts to build our business with customer-centric insurance providers such as BCBSMA,” said Kal Raman, CEO
of drugstore.com.
Shares of DSCM rose 0.06, or 2 percent, to 2.6 on Tuesday. In the last 52 weeks, the issue has ranged from 0.46 to 4.53. The company has a market value of
$175.2 million.
