Cahners Launches Internet Division

Cahners Business Information Tuesday
launched its new Internet division, Cahners Digital, to strengthen its
position in key market sectors.

“Creating an Internet division enables us to increase our speed to market
and expand our impact in key market sectors,” said Marc Teren, CEO of
Cahners. “In the coming weeks we expect to accelerate our rollout of
vertical portals that will be the most dynamic and content rich tools
available on the Internet.”

Tad Smith, a former Starwood Hotels & Resorts, BMG Entertainment and
McKinsey executive, has been picked as president of Cahners Digital. Most
recently he held the title of president of e-commerce at Starwood.

Smith will oversee eLogic, a recently acquired web content management
company, as well as the company’s Internet activities, including vertical
portals being developed in the construction, retail entertainment,
electronics and other market sectors.

Smith will also manage Cahner’s licensing, broadband and wireless
activities and will serve as chairman of the board of Manufacturing.Net, a
joint venture with Aspect Development/I2 Technologies.

Cahners Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier , is a provider of business information in 16 vertical markets. The
company was formed in early 1998 when three separate entities were merged
together: Chilton Business Group, Reed Travel Group and Cahners Publishing
Company.
