Cisco Lays Blueprint for Corporate IT Policies

Perhaps it’s not surprising that more IT workers are bound by policies governing the use of technology than non-IT workers. But when a minority of non-IT workers say their companies don’t have a policy at all, and most of those who do say it needs improvement, something is out of whack.

But it doesn’t have to be that way, according to Cisco, which has released the results of a new survey highlighting, among other things, the disconnect between regular workers and the IT department.

The networking giant advocates a flexible approach when setting IT policies so that employees don’t feel like they’re being shut out of the latest applications, which workers often feel can help them do their jobs more effectively. CIO Update takes a look at Cisco’s latest research on drafting effective IT policies.


Does your organization have an IT policy?

According to a new global study sponsored by Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO), 82 percent of IT professionals said that their organizations have an IT policy. When Cisco asked the same question to non-IT employees, only 47 percent of respondents said that their organizations had an IT policy. To add further insult to injury, for those employees who have an IT policy, 64 percent said that their IT policies are in need of improvements.
