Network equipment giant Cisco Systems has named Charles
Giancarlo as CTO.
Most recently, Giancarlo served as senior vice president and general
manager of product development for Cisco, as well as president of the
company’s Linksys unit. He joined the company in December 1994 through the
acquisition of Kalpana.
As CTO, Giancarlo will be responsible for contributing to and
communicating Cisco’s technology strategy. In addition, he’ll oversee the
Global Government Solutions Group and keep managing Linksys and Cisco’s voice business.
Giancarlo will report to Chambers and continue to work closely with Mario
Mazzola, senior vice president and chief development officer.
“We continue to strengthen the technology team and promote our next
generation of leaders under Mario’s direction,” John Chambers, Cisco’s
president and CEO, said in a statement. “We are especially proud of our deep
bench strength within the technology organization.”
Cisco also announced several other changes in its technology group.
Senior Vice President Jayshree Ullal will lead the newly formed security
technology group; Luca Cafiero, a senior vice president, will lead the Data Center,
Storage, Switching and Wireless Technology Group; Tony Bates will have sole
control over the Carrier Core Multiservice Business unit; Kathy Hill, vice
president and general manager, will lead the Midrange and Stackable Switching
Technology Group; and Kambiz Hooshmand, vice president and general manager, will take
over the Optical and Broadband Transport Group.
