Citizens Cooling on U.S. e-Government: Survey

White House officials have talked at length about the importance of retooling federal websites to give citizens an engaging channel to connect with their government. So how is it going?

Fair to middling, according to researchers who conducted a survey gauging citizen satisfaction with e-government. Portals and agency home pages continue to flummox users, but other, more targeted sites are faring a little better. All told, citizens are happier with e-government sites than they were a year ago, despite modest declines over the past three quarters. Datamation takes a look.


Citizens’ satisfaction with the government websites has declined incrementally over the past three quarters, yet the latest survey shows that overall satisfaction remains near an all-time high, according to a leading index of consumer sentiment.

In a survey conducted by ForeSee Results, government websites earned a 74.7 on the 100-point American Customer Satisfaction Index, a ranking methodology developed by researchers at the University of Michigan.
