An interactive game portal that enables wireless and desktop users
to play against each was launched Monday by Scandinavian vendor
UDS.
One of the games available at the site is called e.g., which the
vendor claims is the first game in which users of Wireless
Application Protocol (WAP)-enabled devices can play against
desktop browser users.
The site was developed and is being run by UDS’ GlobalFun
subsidiary. Currently, the portal is under evaluation and will be
officially launched at the end of the current quarter, the company
said in a statement.
The company said the underlying platform eventually will support
other technologies such as interactive television.
“One of the problems with WAP has been that there have been too
few users for it to be interesting for players,” said Bertil Krumnack,
GlobalFun’s managing director. “This is no longer a problem.”
