Destia Acquires UK Cellular Provider

Destia Communications, Freeserve’s partner for e-commerce telephony services, has acquired Wavetech, a UK-based provider of cellular phone services.

“The acquisition of Wavetech enables us to cross sell cellular
services to the Destia customer base, and sell Destia fixed-line
service to Wavetech’s existing customers,” said Destia’s president
and CEO Alan Levy.

“Customers of bundled Destia services will enjoy integrated single
invoice billing and can rely on one customer service team for all
their needs.”

By the end of this year, said Levy, the final piece of Destia’s UK services strategy will be in place. He did not elaborate, but explained that the strategy was to have the capability of
providing the most highly competitive Internet services to all the company’s UK customers.

In May this year, Destia announced that its UK subsidiary had
launched Presto Phone, the UK’s first e-commerce telephony service,
in conjunction with Freeserve.

The acquisition brings Destia, formerly known as EconoPhone, an
ongoing business with a list of long-term corporate customers.
Wavetech was founded in 1985.

Destia provides domestic and international long distance
telecommunications services in North America and Europe,
including calling card, prepaid card, and wholesale
transmission services.
