In a move to dampen speculator frenzy that Britain’s biggest ISP – Freeserve – was about to be sold off its majority owner, high street retail giant Dixons, Friday issued a statement flatly denying any such plans.

Freeserve was floated on the Stock Market last summer and rumours that it was about to be sold has sent its share price rocketing in recent days.

Meanwhile, high street rival W.H. Smith has also unveiled plans to push deeper into online services with the introduction of Internet kiosks in 19 of its stores in London and the south-east.
