In a terse statement, Ericsson confirmed reports Thursday that it was in talks with Sony about
wireless phones, but provided no other details.

“Ericsson confirms that it is involved in talks with Sony about potential collaboration involving
the mobile phone handset business,” the company said in a two-sentence statement. “Nothing
specific has been decided.”

Ericsson has struggled to maintain worldwide market share of its wireless phones against
Scandinavian rival Nokia.

The market responded strongly to the reports, pushing the price of
Ericsson shares up almost nine percent.
