Many holiday shoppers went down to the wire this year, taking advantage of online retailers’ offers of free shipping through the end of the week, which saw four days net ecommerce sales of more than $900 million.

Online metrics firm comScore reported that ecommerce sales last week were 14 percent higher than the comparable period last year, with more than half of all transactions including offers of free shipping. Online retailers have continued their momentum this holiday season, posting record sales for the week ending Fri. Dec. 17.

During that week, the last full period when shoppers could expect free shipping with delivery in time for Christmas, four days each saw sales of more than $900 million, according to Web metrics firm comScore, enough to make it the heaviest spending week on record.
