They may not have much power to steer the agendas of their committees, but House Democrats are making their objections known.
In the area of net neutrality, one of several issues where GOP members are trying to roll back executive regulations, the Democratic leadership and members of a subcommittee are appealing to the majority to slow down and back away from the procedural fast track it is pursuing to overturn the open Internet order the Federal Communications Commission approved in December.
Specifically, Reps. Henry Waxman, Anna Eshoo and the other Democrats on the subcommittee are arguing against the order Republicans are planning to bring to a vote on Wednesday under the Congressional Review Act, objecting to the GOP refusal to allow the introduction and debate of amendments.
“This is a major departure from the Committee’s tradition of transparency and an extraordinary silencing of its members,” they wrote.
