Aiming to speed results for e-commerce users and Internet service providers, IBM Corp. Tuesday unveiled what it says is the world’s fastest 64-bit, four-way Web enterprise server, the RS/6000 Model H70.
The H70 set a new industry record of 11,774 hits per second in the latest SPECweb96 benchmark tests, which makes it the fastest four-way Web server, 29 percent faster than a similarly configured Sun Enterprise 450.
The H70 enterprise server is the latest addition to the RS/6000 Model H50, geared toward providing fast results for e-business, enterprise resource planning (ERP), supply chain planning (SCP) and
business intelligence applications.
The rack-mounted H70 server is powered by four IBM RS64-II microprocessors and employs the AIX operating system, which boosts Web serving speeds by 75 percent over its predecessor, the H50, and also retails for the H50’s original entry price.
IBM also announced that it is expanding its high availability solutions with the new HA-H70 Cluster Server. The HA-H70 system features two specially configured H70 servers with IBM’s storage 7133 Serial Disk System, and IBM’s High Availability Cluster Multi-Processing (HACMP) for AIX software.
“The H70 and HA-H70 deliver leading-edge server technology at a competitive price,” said Rod Adkins, general manager, IBM RS/6000. “They are an important addition to IBM’s portfolio of e-business tools that help customers succeed in today’s networked world.”
In addition, IBM said it has reduced prices on the H50 and HA50 high availability cluster system by up to 20 percent.
