InfoSpace Lands ABCNEWS.com

Can’t get enough Koppel? Have trouble adjusting without Jennings? Stupified sans Stephanopolous? InfoSpace can help.

Under a new deal, the Bellevue, Wash., wireless and Internet software services specialist will provide search and directory services (including white and yellow pages) to the site as well as distribute ABCNEWS.com streaming audio and video content to Verizon broadband subscribers.

“Visitors depend on us for more than just news, which is why we believe that InfoSpace’s WebCrawler meta-search capabilities are a compelling addition,” said Bernard Gershon, senior vice president and general manager of ABCNEWS.com in New York.

InfoSpace’s search tool lets users check multiple search engines at once, quickly returning the comprehensive and relevant results. Launched earlier this year at WebCrawler and elsewhere, the technology integrates many of the Web’s major search properties, including Google, FAST and Inktomi.

Previously, ABCNEWS.com had site search but not Web search capabilities, said Julie Summersgill, a network spokeswoman.

Through InfoSpace’s broadband media player application, Verizon Online digital subscriber line customers will have access to premium video content from ABCNEWS.com including segments from World News Tonight, Good Morning America, 20/20 and Primetime Thursday.

The InfoSpace Media Center is targeted towards broadband service providers and content companies, and is currently deployed to Verizon Online.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Other InfoSpace streaming media customers include MSNBC and ON24.

In its most recent quarter, InfoSpace narrowed its losses, due, in part, to cost cutting measures. In December, hired telecom veteran Jim Voelker as CEO and president, replacing Naveen Jain.
