Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) posts year-end revenue of $67.4 million, up 242% vs. 1996. Fourth-quarter revenue hits $25 million, up 181% vs. 4Q96. Pro forma net income is $2.6 million or $0.05 per share, excluding $3.9 million charges related to the acquisition of Four11, the directory and email company. With that charge, net loss is $1.3 million $0.03 per share.
Closely-held AudioNet raises $22 million from investors including Motorola, Intel and Yahoo among others. AudioNet produces, appropriately, audio content for the Internet.
Versant Object Technology (NASDAQ:VSNT) expects 4Q revenue to reach about $9 million, up 60% vs. 4Q96. Total 1997 revenue is expected of about $29.6 million, up 60%. Meanwhile, a net loss between $0.12 and $0.15 per share is on tap for 4Q97 vs . $0.07 per share profit 4Q96. Total loss for 1997 is expected to range from $0.15 to $0.18 per share vs. $0.18 EPS for 1996. The loss comes as Versant’s larger customers scaled back and it increased sales and marketing. We think the management turnover also influenced the bottom line, in addition to Oracle’s (NASDAQ:ORCL) moves in this arena.
