  • Lycos (NASDAQ:LCOS), spurned from acquiring GeoCities probably due to its high asking price, acquires another Web community company, Tripod, for $58 million stock. Our analysis shows the deal values Tripod’s 1.5 million “members” at $38.67 each or 58 cents per monthly page view.

  • Mecklermedia (NASDAQ:MECK), producer of this report, posts $23.3 million revenue for its first quarter ending Dec. 31 vs. $17.4 million for the same period last year. Net income reaches $3.1 million vs. $2.1 million, or $0.36 vs. $0.25, respectively.

  • Mindspring (NASDAQ:MSPG) shares rocket as investors pick up shares of the growing consumer ISP on what we think could be the belief that Web-based dial up — with a friendly face on it such as MSPG and Earthlink (NASDAQ:ELNK) — may eat into AOL’s (NYSE:AOL) marketshare very soon.
