  • Infoseek (NASDAQ:SEEK) rockets to a new all-time high of $34.50 per share on superheavy volume–17 million shares traded–as investors finally start believing that the search and content service may be doing deals to open up its future. Yesterday recall that Infoseek agreed to acquire free home page web community WBS for 350,000 SEEK shares or about $6.7 million based or $2.48 per member.   • Versant Object Technology (NASDAQ:VSNT) inks a deal with Nortel (Northern Telecom), one of the largest telecommunications solution providers, to use Versant’s object database technology as part of Nortel’s new broadband offering. We think Versant’s robust and dynamic object software could be very hot in this burgeoning arena.

  • Mecklermedia (NASDAQ:MECK), producer of this report, expands its leading Internet World trade shows to Eastern Europe with Internet World Prague ’98, in Prague, Czech Republic, the first Internet trade event in Eastern Europe and the 27th Internet World trade show globally. Tradeshow Week has called the Internet World trade shows “the fastest-growing shows in tradeshow history.”
