Ira Magaziner to Address Internet Content Leaders

Ira Magaziner, who advised the Clinton Administration
on Internet policy issues, will speak next month at a symposium about
legislative issues facing Internet content providers, the Internet Content
Coalition (ICC) announced Wednesday.

The former senior domestic policy advisor to the president, who formally
leaves office on Thursday, is scheduled to address ICC members on Jan. 11,
1999 in San Francisco. In addition, Christine Varney, formerly a member of
the Federal Trade Commission and a former
senior White House advisor, will open the symposium with a discussion of
Internet content concerns and will examine the government’s role in
electronic commerce.

Ann Brick, a staff attorney for the ACLU of
Northern California is also slated to speak. Brick will discuss legislative
issues surrounding Internet content and its impact on civil liberties.

Following each presentation, a panel of senior executives of ICC members
will lead an open discussion covering issues ranging from standards and
practices for Internet content providers, to privacy, filters, taxation and
domain names.

Founding member companies of ICC include Adobe, BPI, CBS New Media, CNET Inc., Collier Newfield,
ConEx, Digimarc, Digital Strategies, Infonautics, MSNBC, Marvel Online, Playboy Enterprises,
Qpass Inc., Reuters New Media, Sony
Online
, The New York Times,
The Weather Channel, Time Inc., Warner
Bros. Online, Warner Music Group and ZDNet.

“I strongly support the ICC’s goals – keeping the Internet free of
government intervention through self-regulation,” Magaziner said. “I look
forward to speaking at the ICC symposium since this will be a perfect venue
to collect viewpoints on issues that impact both the public and private
sectors.”

The free symposium is open to the public, and will be followed by a
reception. To register for the event,
