Qualcomm Inc. said Thursday that it has licensed MP3 patents from Thomson Multimedia and will build the audio technology into its wireless CDMA integrated circuits and system software.
The agreement will enable consumers to play audio files on their wireless devices.
“With the emergence of next-generation CDMA wireless high-speed networks, wireless phones will increasingly become a consumer entertainment product,” said said Johan Lodenius, Qualcomm’s senior vice president of marketing and product management for CDMA technologies.
Qualcomm licenses the integrated circuits and system software to mobile phone vendors.
