New York’s Globix Corporation, a one-stop shop for businesses needing Internet solutions, has signed a lease on a 34,000
square foot facility in London’s West End.

Located near the junction of
Tottenham Court Road and New Oxford Street, it is the first Globix
data centre outside of the United States and is expected to be fully
operational early in 1999.

“The new London location is in line with our strong and rapid growth,” said Marc H. Bell, Globix president and CEO. “It represents a major
step toward realizing our strategy of constructing data centres around
the globe. We are pleased to have found a facility in the United
Kingdom that is so well situated.”

Among the facilities that will be offered to customers in the UK are
Internet access, Web hosting and co-location servers, supported by
in-house features such as FM200 dry fire-suppression, backup
generator and an uninterruptible power supply. Globix will also provide
streaming media, electronic commerce and security solutions to UK
customers.

In response to increased market demands for its services, Globix has
begun construction of a network that will run as a ring around the
continental United States and travel over another ring on the Gemini
cable into the UK. The company also plans to expand its business into
other overseas markets.
