[Sydney, AUSTRALIA] One.Tel Limited subsidiary One.Tel
Broadband Pty Limited has joined Cable & Wireless Optus subsidiary XYZed and
AAPT in issuing a complaint to the ACCC
over local loop access charges.
The dispute was fueled by the charges Telstra has demanded from One.Tel for
access to its unconditioned local loop, which the ACCC has already claimed
are inappropriately high.
Access to the ULL allows competitors to directly utilize Telstra’s copper
lines that connect customers to local telephone exchanges. One.Tel plans to
use the network to provide high-speed Internet access to its customers.
The ACCC said it had begun an arbitration process between the two parties,
but offered no futher comment, saying that the arbitration would be
private.
The ULL was declared by the ACCC in July 1999, following an inquiry
examining competition for local telecommunications services.
