Scoot.com announced
this week that it has formed a co-branding partnership with the
AltaVista Company.
Under the terms of the new agreement, the two brands
will be blended together in the UK, with the aim of
creating a wider market for both of them.
“The partnership with AltaVista will bring
together two of the leading innovators on the Internet,”
said Miranda Cleverdon, chief commercial officer for Scoot.
“We anticipate AltaVista users will benefit from Scoot’s
powerful consumer-centric transaction service in the UK,
whilst our subscribers will benefit from incremental
transactions.”
Scoot provides buyers with decision making information and
connects them directly with sellers through various interactive
distribution channels. It operates not only in the UK but
also in the Netherlands and Belgium via a joint venture with
VNU.
AltaVista, which has just launched
altavista.co.uk, claims that its new UK Internet service covers 90
per cent of UK Web sites, or 17 million pages. It offers users
such facilities as multimedia search, RealNames search for
specific names and brands, and the BabelFish multilingual
translation service.
“The philosophy behind altavista.co.uk is simple: give
British users the easiest, most efficient method of finding
the information they are looking for on the Internet,” said
Vesey Crichton, marketing and strategy director for
AltaVista Europe.
“The Scoot Business Finder helps us to achieve this
objective with its easy-to-use, comprehensive directory.”
In Europe, AltaVista also runs
altavista.de
in Germany and
altavista.se in Sweden.
