Online content aggregator ScreamingMedia Wednesday added
Spanish- and Portuguese-language media to its mix.

ScreamingMedia inked network deals with several Latin American publications,
including Brazil’s Jornal Grapiuna, El Diario Chile, Ecuador’s El Comercio,
Bolivia’s El Diario Bolivia, Uruguay’s Diario La Republica and Mexico’s La
Revista.com. Other local content from the six countries will also be added.

The company has also signed several Latin American sites onto its
distribution list, including Telemundo.com, Latinvision.com, Yupi.com and Andinet.

“Internet growth in Latin America is exploding, making the region one of the
fastest growing markets in the
world for online content,” said Kevin Clark, ScreamingMedia’s Chief
Executive Officer.

ScreamingMedia also pointed to research by Jupiter Communications, which
estimates that the online population in Latin America will hit 38 million by
2003, up from nine million last year — a growth rate which is expeted to be
the world’s fastest.

The content distributor previously signed deals with industry heavyweights
America Online Inc. (AOL), Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), and Healtheon/WebMD (HLTH) for site content.
ScreamingMedia derives its content supply from media-end deals with more
than 500 providers, and claims to release more than half a million articles
each month.
