Expanding business with an existing customer, Speedera has won a contract to boost the speed and performance of Fox Broadcasting Company’s Web site. Financial terms of the multi-year deal were not disclosed.

Media and entertainment companies, which are increasingly using their Web sites to promote programming, run contests and gain viewer feedback, are a key customer group for Speedera.

The Santa Clara, Calif., company also counts Univision, National Public Radio and the National Hockey League among its clients.

“Media and Entertainment is one of our five key vertical markets and represents a substantial portion of our revenue,’ Speedera spokesman Jay Mejia told internetnews.com.

The company’s other areas of focus are high-tech, government, Internet retail and online ad delivery.

The Fox deal, is a result of a working relationship. Previously, Speedera supported the Web presence of reality show “American Idol” and the interactive quiz show, “Test the Nation.” However, the company did not use a content delivery network specialist for its flagship site.

Fox will use Speedera’s on-demand network of globally distributed servers to deliver Web pages and streaming media clips through Fox.com. The software suite also includes analytic software to help Fox and others gauge how well their systems are working and what adjustments need to be made.

Speedera competes against Akamai Technologies . The Cambridge, Mass., companyalso covets media customers, having signed deals with MSNBC and New York Times Digital.
